Andy Hill is Professor and Associate Provost Research and Industry Engagement in the College of Science, Health and Engineering at La Trobe University. He gained his PhD from Imperial College London and has held positions at University College London and The University of Melbourne. He is an expert in protein misfolding and disease, particularly in diseases of the ageing brain. At the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science he leads a laboratory investigating the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases with a specific focus on the role that extracellular vesicles play in these disorders. He has worked in the EV field for more than 15 years and has published extensively on their involvement in Alzheimer’s and prion diseases, particularly with respect to developing EV based diagnostics. He has widened the scope of his EV research into other conditions and more recently into the use of EV therapeutics. He founded the La Trobe Research Centre for Extracellular Vesicle Research in 2016 and is a member of the Executive Board of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) since 2012, including as President from 2016-2020. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the 2019 Beckman Coulter Discovery Science Award from the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Special Achievement Award from ISEV in 2020.
